Inaugural Issue / Letter from the Operations Desk
Introducing Field Notes.
A new periodic briefing from TechDispatch360 — practical telecom and IT perspective for the operators who keep small and mid-sized businesses running.
Most businesses experience their telecom and network infrastructure in one of two states: working, or requiring immediate attention. The decisions that determine which state you spend more time in — what to install, who to call, what to ask for, what to expect — are rarely covered in writing that is actually useful to the people making them. Field Notes is our attempt to change that.
The Operators We Write For
Field Notes is written for businesses that are too established to rely on consumer-grade tools, but too lean to staff a dedicated IT department. Most operating businesses live in that middle — the 18-attorney firm, the six-location restaurant group, the medical practice expanding into a new suite, the warehouse that has finally outgrown three consumer access points. Enterprise vendors talk past these operators. Consumer guides do not apply to them. We write for them directly: small business owners, office managers, operations leads, and the people inside growing companies who own technology decisions without owning the title.

What Field Notes Will Cover
Each issue is built around a specific operational topic. Forthcoming installments include:
Plain-Language Explainers
What smart hands means in practice. The functional difference between Cat6 and Cat6A. Where fiber still earns its cost in a WiFi-first world. We answer the questions our customers most often hesitate to ask.
What to Expect from Professional Field Services
What a competent service call includes, what documentation you should receive, what a clean closeout looks like, and the warning signs that indicate you will be paying for the same work twice.
Operational Checklists
Office moves, new leases, and multi-site rollouts — the same checklists our project managers use, published for operators running their own.
Multi-Site Playbooks
For organizations operating three, ten, or one hundred locations: how to standardize cabling, phones, and WiFi without managing a hundred different vendors.
Field Perspectives
Observations from active dispatches — patterns we see, mistakes we encounter, problems we have solved. Identifying details are always removed.
Our Editorial Standards
Field Notes will not publish promotional content disguised as guidance. We will not produce long-form filler written for search engines rather than readers. And we will not default to recommending the most expensive solution. There are situations in which the correct answer is straightforward, and inexpensive. When that is the case, we will say so.
Your phone system is sound; you need a properly terminated cable.
How Our Services Work
For readers unfamiliar with field dispatch services, the process is straightforward. Technical diagnosis is not required from the customer — only a plain-language description of the issue.
-
STEP 01
Intake
You contact dispatch by phone, email, or service ticket and describe the issue in plain language.
-
STEP 02
Scope & Match
Operations scopes the work, matches a qualified technician to your site and timing, and confirms an arrival window.
-
STEP 03
On-Site Work
The technician completes the work and documents it with photographs, test results, and a written summary.
-
STEP 04
Closeout
The ticket is closed out — in most cases the same day — with full documentation delivered to you.
Emergency dispatch operates 24/7/365. In core metropolitan markets, typical on-site response is within approximately two hours of intake.
Stay in Touch
Field Notes will publish on a regular cadence. If there is a topic you would like us to address — anything related to your organization’s telephony, cabling, WiFi, or network infrastructure — please send it to us. The most useful content we publish will come directly from the questions our readers and customers ask.
If your business is currently experiencing a service outage, Field Notes can wait. Dispatch is live at 770-441-9999.
